Timber Windows for 32 George Leigh Street, Manchester

Working for construction company, Colbre Projects on behalf of Forshaw Land, Patchett Joinery were successful in securing the contract to manufacture and supply the engineered timber windows for this project.

St Michaels School on George Leigh Street is in the heart of Ancoats urban village and now work has completed on converting this historic land mark into very desirable residential units.

The brief was to manufacture casement windows in the original gothic style involving special arches whilst achieving modern performance standards.

The height of the windows was unusual at over 2.3 metres and required special consideration. Transportation and handling issues meant that the frames had to be made in section and assembled on site.

The design was based on our heritage flush casement window finished in anthracite grey.

The main contractor had the following comments on their development ” We are proud to be forging ahead with the refurbishment of one of Ancoats’s landmark buildings located on George Leigh Street. Originally and in its heyday the property was the Priest’s house connected to the local school.

Now the scaffolding has been removed we can see some of the results of our endeavours. Work included repairs and restoration of the masonry and new period style timber windows to match the original, retaining the character and style of the original building whilst bringing enhanced performance to meet today’s high building standards.”
