Replacement Timber Windows in the outskirts of rural Howden

Replacement Timber Windows

Patchett Joinery were recently approached to carry supply and fit replacement timber windows on a 1970’s style farmhouse in rural Howden in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The homeowners had recently purchased the property and given that the current windows were in varying states of disrepair, had made this a top priority. Fortunately, they met representatives from Patchett Joinery at the Homebuilding and Renovation Show in Harrogate in November of 2014, and were immediately impressed with the range and quality of our windows.

Talking with our representatives, their fears around the longevity of wooden frame windows were quickly laid to rest and they realised they could easily get the aesthetic they wanted without compromising on security or energy efficiency. Following our meeting at the renovation show the homeowners got in touch and asked us for a free, no obligation quote; they found our visit extremely helpful during the decision making process…

“When the Patchett representative visited the property, we found his advice on window style invaluable: not what we originally envisaged but has turned out to be the right choice.  Most importantly, the eventual quote was affordable.”

Upon visiting the property we found that the current windows were made from timber and, due to the differences between them, likely came from 3 different lower grade manufacturers. They were single glazed with  butt hinges and had very limited security in the form of locking casement stays.  All mixed styles, the windows were in various states of disrepair and there was a lot to gain from upgrading them; something the new homeowners understood rather well after consulting with us.  We supplied matched flush-fit frames with 4-16-4 double glazed units to a ‘u’ value of around 1.3W/m2K, and in order to make sure the look was more consistent than the originals we made the lounge windows 4 equal openings rather than the 3 which were originally supplied, with a wide light in the middle section.

Installation

The general work the homeowners carried out on the property took several months, but with 3 fitters to hand the windows only took a matter of days. For the moment, the homeowners have decided to keep their current doors in place, but after being suitably impressed with our work on the windows are strongly considering upgrading those too. The job was a pleasure, one that we’re very proud of, and we’re thrilled that we’re now being recommended highly to neighbours and friends in the area as a result.

“We are delighted with the end result.  These wooden framed windows are of the highest quality and have transformed the external appearance of the property.  It is, however, the internal aesthetics that has impressed us the most.  They look fabulous from the inside and, as the colour that we chose exactly matches the rest of our internal doors and skirtings, our Patchett windows have become an integral feature of the interior design”
