Gareth O'Brien - Patchett Joinery

Before joining Patchett Joinery, I worked in a family business in London for 15 years that specialised in the manufacture and refurbishment of timber windows in period properties.
Initially I was heavily involved in managing and securing the company’s commercial projects, before working primarily with homeowners in their own properties and managing the sales team.
This experience taught me a great deal about working with old buildings, the difficulties and demands of listed building and conservation projects and fulfilling the needs of some highly demanding clients – including a few celebrities. In my time there I must have seen every kind of wooden window imaginable and visited every street in London, so have no need for an A to Z whenever I go back now.

When I decided to move back to Yorkshire I wanted to find a company that manufacture all of their products in house and in the UK rather than out sourcing abroad. It surprises me that so many companies prefer to manufacture thousands of miles away when there is a wealth of knowledge and skills in the UK.

It also makes it a lot easier to be flexible about design and delivery and respond quickly and efficiently to customers’ demands and problems.
I wanted to work in a company that was forward thinking and looking to invest in the future of their products and employees. My experience here so far has certainly proven to me that Patchett Joinery is fully committed to the future success of the company and everyone who works here.

I have definitely joined Patchett Joinery at an exciting time. There have been lots of new projects to work on with the company’s directors. These include re-branding, designing a new company brochure and building a new showroom for our customers to visit at our sash windows factory in Bradford. We are also looking forward to exhibiting at the Home Building and Renovation show in Harrogate 4th to 6th November.

In my role as Sales and Marketing manager I believe I have the best of both worlds. I enjoy spending time working as part of the team at the office, managing the sales process and dealing with our customers. The other side of my job is to expand the company’s coverage into newer areas. I am currently concentrating on the North West and London. This means that I am often out on site meeting new customers and discussing how we can help with their projects or requirements for expertly made timber windows and doors.
