Bay window & Gothic door screen for Romaville, Robin Hood’s Bay

Background

Romaville, Robin Hood’s Bay is a Victorian Terrace holiday let situated in the upper town of Robin Hood’s Bay, a popular holiday destination on the Yorkshire Coast. The location offers breathtaking views out to sea towards the Ravenscar Headland.

Situation

Romaville was in need of new timber Sash windows and an Entrance Door Screen for the historic coastal property.

Patchett Joinery were approached by Sheaf Construction Ltd, an experienced principal contractor based in Sheffield, who were both owners of the property and managing the refurbishment.

The solution

We crafted Accoya Hidden Balance Sliding Sash windows for the bedroom and bay windows in the two sitting rooms. The bay windows have decorative bars on the top sash to match the style of the existing Sash windows

The Sash windows were handcrafted with hidden trickle ventilation, a unique feature of our Sliding Sash windows. This option provides the same practical benefits of trickle ventilation whilst maintaining the traditional aesthetics of the window, as it is concealed externally and discreet internally.

We also handmade our Gothic style door, characterised by beautifully shaped intersecting glazing bars and a heavy bolection panel, colour matched to Farrow & Ball Hague Blue with Aged Brass hardware. The door is set within an Accoya timber screen from our casement range to provide a striking entranceway in keeping with the original look and feel of the Victorian terrace.

As the location of the property is coastal, specialist marine-grade hardware with an austenitic coating was chosen. This coating is corrosion resistant, protecting the hardware and ensuring a longer life span.

All of the windows and door were fitted with Pilkington S1 Plus thermal glass. This high-quality glass has a range of benefits including an ultra-low U-Value, making it an energy-efficient way to reduce heating bills and reduced environmental impact through reduced Co2 emissions.

Service

Founded in 1840, Patchett Joinery specialises in crafting traditional timber windows, doors and screens for historic properties. The new premium windows and front door were handmade in our Yorkshire workshop to match the original look of the period property, an important factor for the owners of Romaville.

Once the windows were ready, our team of skilled joiners removed the existing windows and doors, disposed of them off-site and then carefully installed the new heritage windows. They also added a mastic seal to the external windows. We provided our Gold-level installation package, giving the added benefit of Building Regulation Approval and internal trim fittings.

Outcomes and impact

Sheaf Construction, the owners of Romaville Robin Hood’s Bay said:

“Thank you to the team at Patchett Joinery for making an excellent job of our new windows, door and porch. Still in keeping with our beautiful period property and doing justice to the breathtaking views”
